Description
Scuba Regulator Savvy by Pete Wolfinger: The Technician's Essential Guide
For years, "Regulator Savvy" has been the go-to manual for professional scuba regulator service technicians. Written by Pete Wolfinger, founder of Scuba Tools, this spiral-bound book offers a comprehensive understanding of how regulators function and how to properly maintain them.
This isn't just a step-by-step repair guide. "Regulator Savvy" takes a unique approach, divided into two key sections:
- Understanding Function: The first half delves into the fundamental principles of how regulators work – the "why" behind their operation.
- Practical Application: The second half applies this knowledge to the "art" of adjusting regulators for optimal performance, including testing procedures and troubleshooting tips – the "how."
With over 300 detailed illustrations across 180+ pages, the book makes complex mechanisms easier to visualize and understand. The text is written in a familiar style, using everyday language to explain technical concepts clearly.
While primarily aimed at new and experienced service technicians, "Regulator Savvy" is also incredibly valuable for any serious diver who wants a deeper understanding of how their life support equipment works. Its value is recognized within the industry, even being used by brands like Hog/Edge to help train their technicians!
Important Note from the Author: This manual provides foundational knowledge but is not a stand-alone do-it-yourself guide for regulator repair. Scuba regulators are life support equipment and should always be treated with the utmost respect and serviced by qualified individuals.

Reviews
I have not finished reading the book but it does a good job of explaining how and why and the different types of first and second stages work. The book talks about adjustment theory but does NOT get into specifics for any regulators.
When I placed order I was not emailed or called to tell me that 2 of the items were out of stock and not be back in stock for several days.
I emailed DRIS after several days and got a quick response that someone would be checking into the order. The next say I got an email saying that they were sorry for inconvenience and that they had dropped the ball by not keeping me informed about my order. I was told that the back ordered items would be in stock within 3 to 5 working days. The I was emailed that the order had shipped on the 5th day after the email from DRIS.
I highly reccommend this book to anyone that wants to understand their regulators better.
Now if I could only get to a DRIS HOG regulator repair class.
