Description / Balanced Relief Valve

Redesigned from the ground up for superior performance in a low profile package.

The Low-Profile Balanced Relief Valve was designed from the ground up to be one of the thinnest relief valves on the market. Its’ compact and streamlined shape makes it more comfortable, lighter weight and less prone to snagging on guidelines or environmental hazards.

The Low-Profile Balanced Relief Valve is a hands-free design with an external one-way mushroom valve so the relief valve can be dived even if it is not connected. The machined Delrin body is designed for easy installation and removal for cleaning. A coin slotted outer cap allows quick removal for inspection of the outer mushroom valve or to clear any debris.

An updated balancing valve design allows pressure equalization between the tubing and the inside of the drysuit, while greatly reducing the potential for leaks. 24-inches of kink-free Norprene tubing are included and a unique swiveling hose barb further adds comfort for the diver.

A relief valve is a critical accessory for any drysuit diver, especially on long dives. Without a relief valve, divers tend to intentionally dehydrate themselves to avoid the “urge” during an extended bottom time dive. Hydration has been shown to be a critical factor in avoiding decompression sickness. With our relief valves, proper hydration is no longer a concern.

Note: Installation requires a 1-5/8-inch (1.625-inch) or 41 mm punch and appropriate adhesive for your drysuit. Dive Rite recommends installation by a professional drysuit repair center.

Designed for tri-laminate style drysuits. Installation on crushed neoprene style suits is possible but requires an alternate gasket style. Contact Dive Rite or your drysuit repair center for details.

*It is very important to clean your relief valve after use to prevent urinary infections. Steramine is a popular sanitizer for cleaning relief valves and rebreather breathing loops.

Tips: The 2012 model balanced relief valve requires a 1-1/4-inch punch, McMaster #3427A28. The 2013 balanced relief valve is once again a standard 5/8-inch punch.

BEST drysuit investment to date. There is nothing better than being able to be properly hydrated for a day of diving. Nothing makes this easier to do than a P valve. The installation was very straight forward and easy to do. I installed on a Fusion drysuit and it looks like a professional installed it. Nice looking to boot (not "bolt" hanging out of my leg) and very easy to remove and clean. Thanks again DRIS!!

Works Perfectly

Excellent P-valve, installs in 5/8" hole (small), no external shutoff required. I did replace the plastic hose barb with a brass one from the hardware store. Valve is installed on a Fusion Sport through the drycore only, no need to penetrate the outer layer. The valve works perfectly every dive with no leaking or other issues.

A necessary item which allows me to stay hydrated and not have to wear an uncomfortable diaper during my dives. This valve works well, is balanced, and is easy to install.

I did quite a bit of research before buying a P valve. I hadn't found much info on the newest Dive Rite, but given the design it didn't seem to incorporate some of the problematic parts I had seen in others. The balancing mechanism is a circular valve on the suit side (the face-down part in the picture here), much like a plastic purge valve. So there's no hinged duck-bill valve to get stuck open. Also, the suit only needs a 5/8" hole punched, even though the valve looks like you'd need a large hole. I grabbed the punch from amazon for about $10. Gluing of the two rubber gaskets (one on each side of the suit) can be tricky if you'd like to keep the valve removable. The instructions recommend you use a 1/2" bolt and large washers to clamp the gaskets after gluing them. They tell you not to immediately screw the valve in to hold them in place as the glue dries, since you risk gluing the valve in at the same time, but I did it anyway as I needed to dive the next day. No problems so far!
