Good but Lazy

The reel as far as it seems is solid, with that being said I think the spooling of the reel is extremely lazy. It is spoiled incorrectly and when you receive it, you will notice that the all the like with spin freely will having the reel locked. My recommendation is to take all the line off, put down a layer of electrical tape on the base of the reel, tie any hitch knot really, sinch it down on the electrical tape for grip and begin reeling. Put you’re line in a bucket like a trash can of sorts when despoiling and if you want to be extra cautious to knot get tangled put corn on top of it. I simply just loop the line twice around a post and use my feet to keep tension while spooling the reel.

Great Primary Cave Reel

A friend purchased this reel and we used it in our cave class. I had the opportunity to use other styles and types but I got tired of borrowing his and this is the one I bought for my primary reel. It is very rugged and holds up well to both Mexico and Florida caves.

I purchased this reel as my first real reel. Comes with a good double ended boltsnap, and the metal lock screw can be used on either side depending on your preference. The line stop at the end is a nice addition. I'm not sure exactly how much line was run on the spool but when I ran all the line off and rewound it wet, all the line was still able to fit.

Expensive, but worth it

I had a Hollis Pathfinder and when I went to use it, it had warped and there I was fighting with the thing in less than ideal conditions. Anyway DRIS took it back and I decided to go with the LM 400' and I'm very happy. The reel is as smooth as silk.

Great option for an entry level reel, 400 foot is the ideal length of a reel for using in a lot of wrecks and for entry level caves. Highly recommend this type of reel over a lot of the other types on the market. Easy to maintain the line and stop it from bird nesting/fouling on the reel when operating it, once one knows how to properly use it that is.

I bartered this reel from a friend after I fell in love with the LM 200' primary I had borrowed. I was worried that the 400' version would be unruly. To my happy surprise, I hardly noticed the larger size in the water! Very nice reel, I'm convinced LM reels are the best, period.

The design and construction of this reel is as close to perfect as possible. It makes fouling your line much less likely (though certainly not impossible). It's built as good as anything out there, and have no unnecessary gimmicks.

Great primary reel

Again, another light monkey product. It's awesome. I have practiced with it on land and in some open water diving. It is very smooth and easy to control tension to prevent reel jamming. Can't wait to get it into a cave.

This reel is very solid and well made. You can change the position of the brake which is really a nice feature that I don't have on my other reel. Great support from LM if you ever need it.
