Second Stage Regulators: The Part You Breathe From!

Ever wonder how you get air from your scuba tank? The second stage regulator is the essential piece of gear that goes in your mouth, delivering the air you need to breathe when you're looking at fish (or the bottom of the pool!). It connects via a hose to the "first stage" (that's the part attached to your tank valve) and makes the air breathable at whatever depth you are.

What to Consider When Choosing a Second Stage:

Think about how the air delivery feels and what features might suit your diving:

  • Air Delivery Design: Some second stages are built to provide air at a very steady rate, no matter how much air is left in your tank or how deep you are. Others might have a slightly different feel as tank pressure changes.
  • Adjustments You Can Make: Certain models have knobs or levers that let you fine-tune how the air flows or to prevent air from flowing freely when it's not in your mouth (especially helpful at the surface).
  • Mouthpiece Shape: The piece you actually hold in your mouth comes in different designs, some of which can help reduce jaw fatigue on your dives.
  • Bubble Direction: The way your exhaled bubbles are directed away from your face can make a difference in keeping your view clear.

Our Selection:

We have primary second stages (for your main air supply) and octopus units (your alternate air source, often yellow). You'll see options from many well-known dive equipment brands, each with different features.
