Shearwater did it again. They released a new computer, Peregrine. It is a beautifully designed wrist computer suitable for an everyday diver. It is extremely easy to use and understand for even least experienced divers.
Peregrine can be used in several modes: air, nitrox up to 40%, 3 gas nitrox up to 100% O2, and gauge. It is powered by the trusted Bühlmann ZHL-C algorithm, the same one that powers all other computers from Shearwater fleet. You will be amazed by 320 x 240 QVGA screen resolution and full-color LED LCD display.
It is powered by a rechargeable Li-ion battery and holds the charge for up to 30 hours on medium brightness. You will enjoy the generous logbook capacity that will allow you to store up to 200 hours worth of dives.
Cold water drysuit divers will appreciate its vibration alarms. For divers looking to customize, additional straps can be purchased in Ocean Blue and White.
Like all other Shearwater computers, Peregrine comes beautifully wrapped in a ballistic nylon polymer case.

More information on the Shearwater Peregrine

Shearwater Research, Inc. is bringing the most important features of a high-end dive computer to the recreational diving crowd with their new Shearwater Peregrine model dive computer. The Shearwater Peregrine dive computer comes at an affordable price while retaining many of the functions of the Shearwater Teric and Perdix AI models.

This advanced nitrox dive computer boasts the same 2.2-inch (55.8mm) wide, high-resolution  LCD display that’s easy to read and includes automatic screen brightness adjustment. This impressive display is set in a rock-solid, yet low profile, 77mm x 68mm x 25mm thick case. The robust, sleek case lends the Peregrine a depth rating of 394 ft / 120 m.

The unit’s display can be highly customized, from different information layouts to user-defined fonts in different colors and sizes. The display can even be inverted should the diver want to wear the Peregrine dive computer on their left arm. Wrist mounting options include the standard rubber strap as well as the ability to use a double bungee cord setup (both of which are included with the unit).

The Shearwater Peregrine is based on the Perdix 3-Gas Nitrox Bühlmann ZHL-16C algorithm. (There are gradient factors designed for single, two and three gas modes, as well as switchable gas choices for use with advanced Nitrox diving.) Though it’s not made for Trimix, this unit makes a great dive computer for recreational users who are getting into advanced diving, as Gauge mode can serve as a backup bottom timer to a maximum depth of 120m.

The four dive modes are:

  • Air (Simple air mode for everyday diving)

  • Nitrox (Up to 40%)

  • 3 Gas Nitrox (Up to 100% O2)

  • Gauge

Using the Shearwater Peregrine is easy. Those familiar with the Teric and Perdix will recognize the simple two-button interface. Programming and operation -- both pre-dive and underwater -- is extremely intuitive thanks to a well-thought-out and easy to navigate menu.

The color LCD screen allows for differently-coded visual alerts in green, yellow, and red, but this new model has one feature that’s not available in the other models. The Shearwater Peregrine dive computer has a vibration alert system that can be set to coincide with the visual alerts on the screen -- a truly innovative and useful feature for divers of all levels.

As you might expect, the Peregrine includes full CNS Tracking, no lockout for dive plan deviations (standard for all Shearwater dive computers), gauge mode, full decompression support, and a built-in quick dive planner.

There are a few features absent when comparing the Shearwater Peregrine dive computer with its sister products from Shearwater. The Peregrin lacks technical modes for Trimix and CCR diving, a digital compass, and the air integration feature.

The Peregrine has three preset conservatism options (low, medium, and high), and a custom conservatism option that allows the diver to manually set their GF parameters.

And how about the high-tech updates? The Peregrin features wireless data transfer via Bluetooth, thus allowing divers to download up to 200 hours of logged dives to either a home computer or Shearwater’s Cloud. This is also how free firmware updates will be installed as they become available. The Shearwater Cloud is available for Mac, Windows, Apple iOS and Android platforms

In place of the user-replaceable AA battery needed for running Perdix models, the Peregrine uses a sealed rechargeable battery system capable of yielding 30-hours of dive time per charge. The Peregrin is charged the same way as many modern smartphones, via a wireless charging pad. The Peregrin is even compatible with most third-party Qi wireless chargers!

With so many features and such a reasonable price tag, the Shearwater Peregrine dive computer could be the best choice for all but the most advanced divers.

Proposition 65

Safe Water and Toxic Enforcement Act of 1986 – Warnings Required

WARNING: This Dive Right In Scuba product can expose you to certain chemicals which are known to the State of California to cause cancer, birth defects, or other reproductive harm. For more information go to www.P65Warnings.ca.gov

We appreciate your decision to purchase Dive Right In Scuba products to provide the best in water experience. We take our job seriously! You may have noticed that our products now show a warning label at point of sale referring to carcinogens and birth defects. You may also have begun to see warnings related to carcinogenic substances or substances causing birth defects prominently displayed in hotel lobbies, hospitals, or other places of business recently. These warnings are required by the State of California, and we believe that an explanation of the California statute legislating the requirement will provide you valuable information regarding the relative risks of the chemicals that may be present in consumer products.

In 1986, the State of California passed the Safe Drinking Water and Toxic Enforcement Act; otherwise known as “Proposition 65” or "Prop 65". Prop 65 requires businesses like ours to disclose to individuals the presence of chemicals listed in the Act prior to point of sale. The regulations implementing this Act have been amended over time with the most recent updates will take effect on August 30, 2018. There are more than 900 chemicals on the Prop 65 Chemical List, including many chemicals that are found in components of a wide array of consumer goods or are used to manufacture components that make up consumer goods.

Prop 65 does not establish acceptable concentrations for any listed chemical; however, the agency which enforces it has established what is called "safe harbor" exposure levels for about one third of these chemicals below which warnings are not required. These "safe harbor" are established for listed carcinogens based on the quantity of the chemical that would result in one excess case of cancer in an exposed population of 100,000, assuming lifetime (70-year) exposure at the level in question. A similar process is used to establish safe harbor levels for listed reproductive toxicants. Additional information in plain language on safe harbor levels is available from the California Office of Environmental Health Hazard Assessment at http://oehha.ca.gov/Prop65/background/p65plain.html

At Dive Right In Scuba, the safety of your in water experience is our highest priority. We go to great effort to select materials that offer superior value, quality, and durability while also being generally recognized as safe and reliable for the full life of the product. Dive Right In Scuba also works closely with many regulatory bodies, such as the US Coast Guard and Underwriter’s Laboratories, to ensure the longevity of your on-water safety through targeted selection of durable, long lasting materials and components that undergo significant validation testing before being used to manufacture end items. Sometimes the safety promise we offer appears at odds with the health and safety requirements of other legislation in certain parts of the world when some regulations are updated ahead of others. To ensure compliance with applicable legal requirements, Dive Right In Scuba has placed a warning on products that contain a Prop 65 listed chemical, either directly or as a part of the raw material supply chain. This allows us to comply with California law and provide our California consumers with the disclosure required by Prop 65, while still promising the safest on water experience possible.

Dive Right In Scuba is working diligently with regulatory bodies and our own manufacturing partners to continue to improve our product performance and reduce the presence of less desirable chemicals. Water is a precious resource we all share that is important to the health and well-being of our planet and all people. Our goal is to continue to enhance your water life experience while reducing our overall impact to the planet and, in particular, its waterways. While it is a bit of a juggling act to achieve, we are confident you will see continued improvement in both the immediate and long term future. We hope this explanation will enable you to understand why you will be seeing warnings on some our products.

Thank you for your continued use of Dive Right In Scuba products.
