Safety valve

This is a nice safety features to have on the first stage if the internal pressure gets too high and blows all your seals leaving you with a malfunctioning regulator. It is contact and very low profile which is nice so it doesn't get in the way. It is all stainless steel so It will last.

The OPV is important incase the IP is too high fore the second stage which may blow out the orings and other parts. It is made of stainless steel and has a stainless steel internal spring which is nice.

I purchased this XS Scuba OPV for a regulator that I had adjusted to the proper IP to use as an argon rig. The valve I received had a brown Viton o-ring. The exact same OPV costs between $12-20 from other suppliers - Thanks DRIS.

You need to have one of these valves if you have a regulator with no second stage, such as the regulator setup on an argon bottle. Plus you cannot beat the price, usually they are around $20!! Excellent product.
