Description
PADI Skin Diver by PADI
Explore on a Single Breath
Skin diving takes traditional snorkeling to the next level by incorporating breath-hold dives to observe aquatic life up close and personal. It is a fantastic way to explore the underwater world if you aren’t quite ready for scuba certification, or if diving with a tank simply isn't your thing. The PADI Skin Diver course teaches you how to comfortably and safely venture underwater for short visits, whether you are exploring a local freshwater quarry or vacationing at a tropical ocean destination.
Academic and Practical Skills
This course covers the essential knowledge and techniques needed to be confident in and around the water. You will learn basic water safety guidelines, how to properly perform a buoyancy check, and efficient surface swimming habits. More importantly, you will master specific skin diving techniques, including how to easily clear water from your snorkel and how to execute smooth, effortless surface dives to get closer to the reef. You will also have the opportunity to apply these skills during an optional skin dive at a local dive site.
Gear Up for the Surface
Comfort is key when you are holding your breath. In this course, you will learn how to properly choose, adjust, and use basic skin diving equipment. This includes familiarizing yourself with a well-fitting mask, snorkel, and fins, as well as utilizing a snorkeling vest for surface flotation and safety. Depending on your local environment, you will also learn how to dive with exposure protection like a wetsuit and how to properly use dive weights to offset your buoyancy.
