PADI Public Safety Diver Course: Foundational Skills for Rescue & Recovery Operations
Interested in applying your diving skills to assist local authorities with scuba rescue, recovery operations, or even underwater criminal investigations? The PADI Public Safety Diver Specialty course provides the foundational training required for this demanding and important work. While public safety diving can be exciting, it requires specialized training and a serious approach.
This course introduces you to the unique procedures, equipment, and challenges faced by public safety dive teams. Through knowledge development and four open water dives, you'll learn and practice:
- PSD Procedures: Scene handling, communications (including rope-pull signals), and documentation requirements specific to public safety operations.
- Specialized Skills: Compass navigation, essential knot tying, arc search techniques, and victim recovery methods.
- Team Safety: Rescue techniques for assisting a distressed public safety diver.
- Equipment Considerations: Understanding the specialized gear used in public safety diving.
Prerequisites:
- Minimum age: 18 years old
- PADI Advanced Open Water Diver certification (or qualifying certification)
- PADI Rescue Diver certification must be earned by the end of this course. (It can often be taken concurrently – ask us!)
Equipment: Beyond your basic scuba setup, you will need gloves, a dive knife, an additional cutting tool, and at least two scuba tanks. Your instructor will advise on other necessary gear, potentially including technical diving equipment.
