Purchased four of these with the four shorty lights we ordered. Thought these would be good to leave on and throw the light in our drysuit pockets. The soft handle/sock makes the light extremely difficult to turn on underwater. The light just slides inside the sock. In order to get your hands on it to turn the light head, you need to remove the light from the sock, turn it on, and then try and get it back in the sock. Too much of a task to do underwater to just turn on a light. Wouldn't recommend these, the hard goodman handle is better (we ended up order 2 of those that seem to be doing much better).

Horrible Handle
Review by
This handle lasted about 100 dives before the velcro ripped out. The neoprene that holds the light was full of holes in about 10 dives. I expected a lot more from a DRIS product. I'm going to contact them and see if they will replace or refund this item.

Failure is success delayed

Like many others have observed, this is not the perfect solution for the DRIS shorty. The shorty is too heavy for this glove and it falls out unless you tie it in to the small ring. Turning it on/off in the glove is also problematic. I did find a use for the glove with a lighter c-cell light that I could clip off to my wrist independently of the glove. Although the idea of the soft glove is good, this design needs some more work - I'm sure future DRIS designs will be better - already the DRIS goodman handle looks like it will solve some of the problems.

Not so good
Review by
After several dives and a couple of emails to DRIS I have come to the decision that the soft sock is pretty much useless. Mike and his staff at DRIS were helpful with telling me to use the metal ring and the loop on the glove to hold the light in place. Turning it on while it is on your hand can be done but it is far from good. Like others, my sock has started to fall apart. It looks like I will be ordering the hard Goodman handle which was not available when I got the light.

worked well for the first few dives but like others said the light is very loose in the handle. i put a few wire ties to keep it from falling out and let me turn it on or off underwater and that made it so much better. after 10 dives its falling apart. stiching is ripping and you can see through the straps so i do not feel comfortable using it again. time to look for other options.

Glove works okay for the first couple of dives. After that, the soft material began to diminish and come apart. The forward strap broke, and neoprene on top is coming apart after only 10 dives or so.

The goodman glove for the DRIS 1k lumen shorty light is useless. Since the light is a twist to turn on, you have to turn the light on before putting it in the glove. If you need to turn you light off underwater you would have to remove the glove. I opted to just use a retractable lanyard instead of the glove. The glove needs to be tighter on the light so you can turn it off and on while in the glove.

Got one of these to go with my DRIS 1k lumen shorty light. Fits my hand well, and I usually need XXL gloves. With a cable tie thru the little webbing loop on the handle and one of the holes machined into the back of the light, holds the light securely. Connected like that it's even pretty easy to turn the light on and off while wearing 7mm gloves in cold water. Ordering/shipping was fast and easy, as always.

While this handle does exactly what it's supposed to do, it does have it's caveats. I use it mostly with the 1k shorty, and the hands free operation is wonderful. However, I have only a dozen or so dives and the velco/stitching have already taken quite a beating. Much of this can be attributed to manhandling it with dry gloves, and I'm admittedly rough on my gear anyway. My only other complaint rests with turning the lights on/off - the light will turn freely inside of the handle, requiring help from a buddy or some creative measures. There is an attached split ring to correct this problem, but since I'm constantly pulling the light in/out of the handle for various things, it isn't practical (and I could break a nail!)

Aside from that, it does exactly what it's meant to do and I'd say it'd be just fine for a recreational diver who doesn't torture their gear. It made all the difference in the world for me while lobstering in Mexico.
