Nice shears. The brand is Scuba Max, I was trying to figure this out before my purchase, but at this price I figured I couldn't go wrong. They are good quality and have a sturdy feel, I had some tin sheeting and 1/4" rope in the garage; no problem here. I had them in freshwater last weekend and no apparent rust yet, saltwater may be a different story. Overall nice to have with you on a dive, cause you never know.

I've used these in zero-vis silt-out conditions to cut stainless leaders & fish nets and they work extremely well. You still have to be certain of what you are cutting and I carry knives as well but shears are much easier for heavy duty line cutting.

They will spot-rust (within hours of salt water exposure) pretty quickly compared to my 304 SS knives so I recommend a rinse and soak ASAP. That said, it's not really a big deal and you can just wire brush/cover them in an appropriate lube after.

The case works fairly well and with little practice you can manage to get the shears back in fairly easily. There are some more expensive and slightly more durable shears out there such as the titanium coated ones but they're typically 2-3x the cost and won't necessarily last that much longer with reasonable care. Even if these wear out you can always pick up another pair cheap and reuse the case.

I use shears and have often found that I am able to cut rope and other objects quicker and easier than if I had had a knife. There are times when a knife is a better choice but overall if I had to choose a knife over shears I would choose shears.

I used these shears as a paramedic/fire fighter and they never let me down, so why not have something that dependable diving as well. These shears can cut a penny in half so they should get you out of any line you might encounter.

If you are serious about cutting things in the water then you need these shears. They cut line better and are safer to use than any knife. They are also easier to use with one hand to cut things unlike most knives where you need to hold the item taught you are trying to cut. Try taking your dive knife out underwater and handing it off to a buddy and see how uncomfortable you both are about the process. I handed these over to my buddy yesterday and I was thinking how easy and safe they were to handle between us.
I was actually cut on the finger years ago when a panicked diver was grappling for his Inflator and accidentally started to pull his knife out that was on the shoulder webbing. I was reaching around for his Inflator and was cut on the finger as he began to pull out the knife.
Knives have their place and I also carry a knife, but for cutting line these SS shears canÂ’t be beat. Plus, DRIS has them at a ridiculously low price with a pouch to boot.
