Description

The newest Atomic Aquatics SplitFin®, "Smoke on the Water" gives an exciting new look to basic black, combining opaque and semi-transparent materials together for a beautiful rich looking effect. The foot pocket and side rails of the fin are molded from our exclusive high energy polymer used in our Reef Red and Liquid Blue models.

Accompanying the new look, "Smoke on the Water" is fitted with our newest innovation, the Atomic Aquatics Spring Strap. Like every product we make, our innovative design re-thinks the old and improves upon the concept. What’s unique is the "variable pitch" of the stainless steel spring (Pat.Pend). Unlike other spring straps that have a constant coil of the same diameter, our new spring straps have a variable pitch and section geometry (they change shape) in specific regions of the strap. These special shaped regions allow the spring to stretch more easily for a more comfortable fit and make them stronger to resist breakage or permanent deformation if they are over-stretched or abused. The spring straps are fitted to our patented quick release buckle system that permits simple, one handed removal or attachment. These new straps will also retrofit any existing Atomic Aquatics open heel Split Fins by simply snapping them on in place of the old straps. A large, rubber heel pad with oversized finger grip adds comfort and makes slipping them on and off quick and easy. Constructed of rust resistant type 316 stainless steel, this may be the last fin strap you ever buy.

Great fin
Review by
I am very happy with the smoke on the water fins. Note that the color in some online photos appears to be almost brown. In person the translucent portions of the fin appear more grey to me (which I prefer). The fin has plenty of propulsion and the spring straps are great. I don't have any ankle fatigue using these. Would buy again.

Great power and ease

This is great for power and speed in the water without requiring big strong legs to propel you through the water. It is very efficient.

great on days you are sore
Review by
I am a very active person and workout almost everyday so there are days when I dive and my legs are sore. These are great on those days. It doesn't require as much muscle to move through water as a not split fin like my Hollis F1s. I am surprised how good these are for split fins. Most people say don't get split fins. I do think my Hollis F1s are better for hovering or all out speed, but on days when I can't give it much muscle I am sure I am faster in these and will not get cramps in my leg.

Really heavy duty
Review by
I have only had the chance to test dive these fins in a pool and I am pleased. They are a little heavier than most fins but I guess that is what makes them so great in water. They are also built to be extremely durable and should be able to take a good amount of abuse around wrecks and rocky bottoms.

Excellent product
Review by
Firstly, I am not a big fan of splits but these splits are an exception. I have used them in strong currents and they perform better than most splits. People are complaining that it is long. Well that is what gives them the propulsion they are known for. An excellent product by Atomic.

Smoke on the water is like real smoke on the water. It's one of the most expensive scuba fins but they are well worth it. They feel similar to my free diving fins , offering so much power under water. Definitely a must have!

I own the regular black Atomic Aquatic Split-Fin, not the "smoke on the water" colors, but I do love these fins as they produce a good amount of thrust and are quite durable. One thing I do like about the smoke on the water edition that I have added to my fins are the the spring straps, which are well made and make donning and doffing the fins by yourself much easier, especially when in a drysuit or 7 mm jacket and farmer johns. I like the fact that the strap does not pin to the rubber like on other fins, because it makes replacement of the strap easier and makes it less likely that damage to the strap will render the fins useless.

The first thing people notice about these fins is the price, and yeah, wow! But put down your search engines and pick up your wallet, the ultimate fin is here. These have the comfort, speed, and looks you crave. My first time diving them I was praying they were worth the money. So I began and it takes a little getting used to because they are longer than most scuba fins, but in a few minutes I was barreling through the water with very little effort! I actually had to slow my kicking down to enjoy the scenery on the dive. Less kicking, less work, slower breathing=longer bottom time. Then I got into a fairly strong current which most splitfins shy from, and these fought against it like true champs. Its like you have the power of Scubapro jetfins with the comfort of splitfins. They aren't all heavy and floppy like Scubapro twinjets either. If I did have one little complaint its the length. Hard to walk around in but hey its worth it and whos walking in them anyway? Way to go Atomic! These are worth the money and have made my diving more enjoyable! A+

I bought these as my first pair of fins that I owned. I previously had solely used rental fins that gave little thrust and never fit correctly. Needless to say, these fins are as different as night and day from rental fins. They have an incredible amount of power with little effort.

During my Advanced Open Water training I was doing the navigation dive and my instructor could barely keep up with me when I did not even realize that I was flying through the water. Of note, my instructor was wearing a pair of $800 fins so these fins are incredible for thrust with little exertion.

My only complaint is that these are big fins. They do however fit in my gear bag so it really is not a problem. Since they are longer fins I have to be extra careful that I do not kick the sea bottom and kick up silt. As I am still honing the craft of diving this should not be a problem in the near future.

While these fins are expensive, if you are searching for a top of the line fin that will allow you to cover large distances with minimal effort, these are the fins for you. I recommend these fins and give them a 5/5.

i had a pair of aqualung slingshots and they were really good, that is until i demo'd a pair of these. a ton of thrust with an easy kick and any kick style and no need for any kind of adjustment during a dive. the spring straps are a little tight until they break in and 5mm gloves barely fit in the strap hole, i do have big fingers though.
