The TDI Introductory Cave Course takes a serious look at the skills needed to conduct safe and enjoyable cave dives. During the cave course your TDI Instructor will teach you the proper techniques for diving in a cave environment while staying on the main line. The introductory cave course may be a stand-alone course or taught in conjunction with the Full Cave Diver course.

Prerequisites

  • Minimal Requirements: Cavern Diver or Equivalent
  • Dry Suit Experience: Recommended

Gear Requirements:

  • Backplate with a harness.
  • Buoyancy Compensator Device (BCD): Wing size and shape should be appropriate for the cylinders used during training.
  • Regulators: For a double tank setup, one first stage must provide a second stage on a 2.1-meter (7 feet) hose and inflation for the BCD. The other must provide a second stage on a hose not exceeding 60 cm, attached with a shock cord on the mouthpiece. It must also provide a pressure gauge on a hose not exceeding 60 cm, and inflation for a dry suit (where applicable).
  • Primary light with a burn time of at least 2x the dive time. At least two backup lights with bolt snaps attached to the back for stowage on the system.
  • One exposure suit appropriate for the training environment and water temperature. A dry suit is preferred.
  • At least five line markers, of which at least four should be REM and at least one arrow.
  • At least one knife as a line-cutting device.
  • At least one low-volume mask as a backup.
  • One pair of non-split, rigid fins.
  • One underwater notepad.
  • One spool of at least 30 meters of line per diver.
  • One spool of at least 50 meters of line per diver as a backup.
  • One primary reel of at least 120 meters of line per diver.
  • Dive computer or bottom timer, as well as a backup computer or bottom timer, or a combination of both
